In this expansive artwork, an Indigenous American figure captivates the viewer with a knowing gaze. Adorned in vibrant, warm hues, the figure’s form is defined by stark shading composed of geometric shapes. The presence of the stone ax on the subject’s lap adds intrigue and visual interest. The profound wisdom emanating from the figure’s eyes invites contemplation of this monumental composition.

“I work primarily in watercolor with colored pencil overlays. I have a number of subjects that I return to again and again. I prefer subjects that are dramatic, sensual, and colorful. My work is contemporary and abstract rather than representational and realistic. I like to stretch the boundaries and break the rules within a tight framework of representation. If I can make an intellectual statement, so much the better. If I can't I'll settle for making art that is elegant and beautiful.”
