With heavy impasto and broad, distinctive strokes, a big, pale blue and cloudy sky is portrayed stretching over a small lake. The golden light on the clouds is beautifully but subtly reflected in the water, while the landscape surrounding the water appears to be bathed in gold. There are suggestions of rural buildings and trees on the bank opposite the viewer. The distinct and heavily textured strokes lend a windy feel to the piece, evoking the movement of the breeze across rippling fields and water.
