Minerva Teichert (1889-1976)
Bouquet of Roses, 1912
Watercolor on Paper
Paper: 16” x 20”
Frame: 23” x 30”
Signed Lower Right: M.B. Kohlhepp
A bouquet of roses settles quietly into even layers upon a blank, gray surface. Each rose is unique in its stage of life and has a distinct pattern to their petal. Their prickly stems and glossy, green leaves splay toward the back right corner of the piece.
Minerva Teichert painted this artwork while at the Art Institute of Chicago, which she attended from 1907 to 1912. In the bottom left corner is written “Paul de Longpré, ’05,” which refers to a popular French flower painter whose work she was referencing in this piece.
