Double Nude, 1924
Conte crayon on paper
Paper: 22.5” x 16.5”
Frame: 29.75” x 23.25”
Signed Lower Center with Artist’s Initials and Dated: ‘MD / Feb 1924’
Delineated in contrasting colors of black and brown, Dixon portrays one figure in two poses. The first pose—with arms held tight to the body and form pressing against a wall—feels contained and reserved. In contrast, the lifted arms and outward gaze of the figure offers a sense of freedom, openness, and vitality. Dixon masterfully constructs each form with bold lines and soft shadows.
