Two trappers make camp on the banks of a frozen river in a winter landscape. The painting captures a sense of quiet contemplation and camaraderie between the two men, as they rest after a long day’s work in the frigid wilderness. The footprints in the snow and winding river add to the overall feeling of stillness and solitude, and bold and colorful brushstrokes capture the ruggedness and resilience of the figures.
