A man steadies his gun on a bipod and aims toward a target beyond the frame. Two other men accompany the shooter and quietly observe. Given the title, one might conclude that the men are practice shooting to prepare for a day of hunting. Buffalo wander in the distance, grazing in the painting’s grassy midground. The landscape’s soft, natural, almost pastel color palette is beautifully contrasted by the subjects’ clothing.
Ken Laager is a western painter, inspired by artists including Frederic Remington, Howard Pyle, and Phillip R. Goodwin.
