The landscape ranges from dry yellow grass to tall evergreens, flat valley meadows to tall rocky cliffs. Down the center of the scene, a group of Indigenous Americans travel on horseback. A small child travels in their company, sitting comfortably and wrapped in a warm hide that is much too big for him. The title of the piece indicates that the child in the scene is being adopted into the community. The piece is a visual narrative with much left to interpretation, but with many details to draw from.
Ken Laager is a western painter, inspired by artists including Frederic Remington, Howard Pyle, and Phillip R. Goodwin.
