In this action-packed scene, cowboys struggle to drive their cattle through dry wash. One cowboy lassos a rogue longhorn and its calf. As dust flies from under the herd and horses rush over steep edges, the viewer experiences the intensity of the scene. The artist includes incredible details including the lassoing cowboy’s cigarette and the horse’s sinewy muscles, in addition to individual blades of grass and distinct rocks in the cliff’s edge. These intricate details are painted against distant hills, vague landforms, and a cloudy sky.
