This painting was inspired by a courageous episode in the Savior’s life when He healed an invalid near Bethesda’s bubbling pools on the Sabbath (John 5).
The scene is most well know for the monumental altar-sized painting by Carl Heinrich Bloch's (1834-1890) done in 1883, and now part of the permanent collection of the Brigham Young University Museum of Art.
This small painting is an oil study for a larger 40" x 38" final piece that was also completed in 1981. The larger final painting resides in the private collection of CJ Peterson in Orem, Utah.
