A large tree dominates the foreground of this delightful summery scene of the California countryside. A rushing stream runs across the painting, spanned by a small bridge. On the other side of the water, a rust-colored barn sits, a small figure standing in front of its gaping door. Two horses with shining coats, one chestnut and the other a charcoal black, stand in the patch of grass beside the barn. The rolling hills and small mountains beyond add depth to the piece, and the impressionistic and colorful brush strokes give it a vibrant and lively feel.
