A dramatic glacial landscape is illuminated by sunlight and colorfully reflected in the water below. While one can almost hear the vivid crash of ice and runoff cascading into the bay, the foreground maintains a sense of stillness invoked by the glassy water and undisturbed blocks of ice. Broad, sweeping brushstrokes lend a ruggedness to the scene.

Located in Southeast Alaska, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve spans 3.3 million acres, making it one of the largest international protected areas in the world. In this work, Bradbury captures the breathtaking heights of the Alaskan mountains that can be seen in this area. The Alaskan mountains are home to nine of the sixteen highest peaks in the United States.
