A lone mature buck stands alert in a gently lit clearing. The warm sky and golden foreground bring light to the dark coniferous trees as well as to the buck’s impressive form. The artist, Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait, was a well-established wildlife artist and popular in the 19th century.
